During last week I have been focusing on 3D modeling. What have I been 3D modeling? Well I've been working on our scary characters for our VR game. At least they are suppose to be scary...it's a working process at the moment. There are many things I'm using in 3ds Max that I haven't used for example the MeshSmooth modifier. That modifier is very useful right now because I actually made the chicken legs which is a very good shape. I still have many modeling to do to make it the most terrifying chicken the school has every seen. The thing that I'm worried about is the amount of polys that this chicken will create. If there are a ton of polys then the game will most likely lag or just have issues in general. The problem I am having with this model is the actually body and the head of the chicken. The structure of a chicken is actually harder than I thought. That just makes it more fun for me since then I can create a weird shape that can identify as a chicken. I bet the eyes are also going to be a challenge since I'm not great at making things like eyes I guess. The feathers are a bit, I would say out of place. I'm not sure if they fit or is there any way I could make them better. Even some of the features is a bit tough on me right now, most of the chicken is already completed. Next after the chicken I have to move on to the pig.

One thing that I think that does contribute to the project is communication. As a team we need it, it's something that is always there. Now I have been working on being able to tell others about the problems and issues we are having. Not only I have a class that needs communication, but it helps me strengthen that skill. It's actually the Yearbook class. We have to talk among each other, email teachers, talk to our own teachers, etc. I took it upon myself to do this for the sake of myself and trying to push my limits. And it's not like I don't like sending emails and stud, I really do enjoy those things because it makes me feel like doing something to contribute. I really don't like having nothing to do and that's us in Yearbook right now. I've sent emails and had everything planned for the next few days. Public speaking is the number one thing that I fear since I feel as though people wouldn't understand me. There are many other things that I think that help and well that's what I'm trying to do. Not only do I email teachers I will try to ask people whether they have any knowledge on maybe like VR, Unity, AutoCAD, or anything else really. I would to have connections to people that have knowledge upon what they do, why they do it and what impact it has to everyone. The more I practice this the more confident I have upon speaking to people with ideas and creations. Getting my point across I feel as though talking to people who could help is one of the things I need to do in order to make it through to not only the project, but to the near future as well.
This week I finally know what I'm going to do for about four weeks. What I have started to do is actually 3d model not our principal, but a chicken and a pig. We will use those as our characters that will actually chase you around the school. From last week I have created that Sky-box of the Atrium and well it was something to try. The only thing I wanted to try is looking at it in VR, but I didn't get the chance to. I would appreciate it if I could do it, but the more I though about it the more the less it made sense to do it. The thing is, is that we want the Atrium to be an actual 3D model instead of being a skybox. Really in short what I am going to be doing is doing the other modes first then after all of that I'm going to make sure the whole structure pf the Atrium is put together so that then I can take every model (with low poly) and put it inside the Atrium. The other thing I want to do is make sure we can have some artwork for the displays. And to make it easier for us we were thinking of only having it open to the Game Art & Design pathway. Students if they want their artwork in our game then we will gladly have it in there. Even though I'm working in those models I still need to think of a way to make the building. And not only the building, but I'm also having trouble on doing a chicken. Mostly a scary one because usually my 3d models are...friendly and not creepy looking. Agenda for Next Week: - Work on the Chicken Model -Work on the Pig Model -Prepare for other models/see what other models I can do -Ask/prepare for idea(s) Let's talk about Virtual Reality shall we? We all know that it's somewhat new technology and working with it is a bit more complex. At least for me, since I have no idea how to use it in an advanced way. During the time I am in school I will be taking online classes in order to advance my skills in not only in VR, but in 3D videos as well. There are many topics that this class will hit on. I'll have many more new skills and strengthen the others. To be completely honest I'm not too sure if I'll be able to handle this, but I will of course try my best. Now the only thing I know about this class is what I will be doing. Apparently this will help me with experiencing and practicing in VR, which is helpful in way. Since in the future there will be more games or simulations that is in VR. The only thing I know what to do now is creating a skybox in Unity by using a 360 picture. Now I don't know whether or not that's what we will be doing, but I feel like it's close to what we are going to do. There are many other courses that you can take in the Adobe Education Exchange (edex.adobe.com/), but I got recommended that because it is something related to my Independent Project that I'm doing with my team-mates (you can check it out in the Independent Project Page). Once I get through this course, which starts October 1st, many ideas will start to pop out and then really only positive things will proceed form that. There will be more to talk about once this course starts and hopefully it will be lots of fun, which I'm sure it will be.
Here we are again with having to start our project for the year. As we progress even further not only did we create problems, but we also solved problems. As for me I had problems opening up Unity, which in this case I did mind even though I don't get along with Unity that well, and that is a problem because I couldn't create the Sky-box for my team-mates. The 360 camera was working well so that means that we took many pictures and recordings in order to make the Sky-box. Since those were mainly the goals for last week I was working on that, but not only did Unity didn't open for me I didn't even get to do other work beyond that. I'll just say we got delayed. And how are we going to make that up? Well what I was planning was going to tutoring and see if I can go in Unity. If I can't then my plan is having someone else do it and help them figure out how to create a 360 picture into a Sky-box. So basically I don't think I accomplish my plan for the week since I didn't even get to finish at least two of my goals. I finally got to the point where I'm touching more than 3ds Max and having to branch a bit more. Getting into AutoCAD is having to try and see if my plan doing the blueprint in 2D CAD and then importing it to 3ds Max and making the walls there. Right now I'm hoping that the floor plans have some sort of measurements so that it can be easier for me to have the right scale because if not then I'll have to base it upon the measurements of the GAD room that I did last year. And I know there might be some human errors, but still it's better than nothing. I really just want to have one part of the blueprint done so that things can go smoothly throughout the year. Agenda for Next Week:
For this week I accomplished modeling some of the little things needed in the game. As well as some other huge objectives needed. My partner did the collectible asset, the flash drive in which it will be used for to win the game. I did the phone which will help the player know where he or she is in the school. We also got in touch with the school the assistant principal about whether they have the schools blue print with all he measurements. What we got in return is all of the fire alarm floor plans. Which is better than nothing since those shows us the buildings structures of that floor. We got that and then I have downloaded AutoCAD so in that I will learn how to do the 2D floor plans so that I can bring them in 3ds Max and have every wall exact. I even created an account in AutoDesk as a student so that I can make sure they know what I am using it for. I also have a program in my laptop that creates 3d models as well. It's called Mixed Reality Viewer and I think it could help me in some of the weird shaped models I need to create. Doing it in 3ds Max was a bit troubling because I was thinking of one way and not another, but one of my team mates figured it out which I am great full for. What I am thinking is that I make them in my laptop then export them in 3ds Max. What I also have been doing is trying to figure out if I can create a skybox in Unity by using the 360 camera. Which I believe I can do. Overall what went well was the fact that we are starting off somewhere and getting little by little things done, which is okay for these two weeks, but after a while I would like to have more and more things done. What I had struggles with was having to get the html for a obj (which I didn't think they needed), having to get that 3d model and knowing what to do. Agenda For Next Week
