In this article I found I think it gives out really good information upon both the architecture and the architecture in video games. One thing that caught my eye was when the author said this "Architecture can tell a story, evoke emotion and shape player experience more effectively than any other aspect of your game. You can have the best characters, story-line, and UI graphics, but without an equally considerate approach to architecture, your player experience will always fall short of its fullest potential" (archvirtual.com/2013/02/09/the-importance-of-architecture-in-video-games-and-virtual-worlds/). I thought it was a great way of saying how the environment is very motivated on the whole game itself and the player. And really I feel the same way too. If the environment isn't good and or not fit for the game then really I feel like you should change that. You see I think in order to get that environment you need to make sure that the characters, art style, enemies, your point across, etc. Things like that up that environment or you could do vice versa but who knows. Overall doing your architecture homework and doing many changes so that the environment and everything else can come together as a whole.
Summary Box:
- Environments are very important throughout the game and through life
- Make sure that the environment fits in with the game
- Not everything has to be as top-notch it can be as simple as lines and shapes
- Don't take this part of the game lightly as you could make possible changes throughout pre-production
